The Hard Hat: About

THE HARD HAT

21 Ways to be a Great Teammate

The foundation of our program is based on the idea of selflessness. The players on our team are introduced to Jon Gordon's book The Hard Hat and his 21 Ways to Be a Great Teammate and are encouraged to live each day trying to be the best teammate they can be. While all 21 Ways are important to our culture, #21 Leave the Place Better than You Found It, provides guidance to us in so many ways. When we enter a space it should always be our goal to leave the area better than we found it. This means cleaning up the locker room we change in or making sure all of the trash is removed from the dugout that we play in. It means pushing in chairs in a classroom or turning off computers before we exit. But this WAY has meant more than the physical locations that we are in.

What #21 really means is did you leave the Husky Softball Program in a better place than you found it a year later?  4 years later? Are we as a program better because you were here? When I first chose this book, #21 was one of the reasons that stuck out in my mind, and I found it had meaning for our captains too. Are we as a program better now than we were when the season began? I believe each year we are adding building blocks to our culture and foundation  for what Husky Softball is and is going to be for many years to come. Each year we will have more work to do, but together we will continue to build a culture that moves our program in the direction we want to go. Grab your hard hat and let's keep constructing this program together!  Remember WD > WS. Are you doing the work necessary to help us be the team we want to be?
